Social Security Payments September 2025: Exact Dates You’ll Get Paid

From rent to groceries to everyday expenses, Social Security remains a financial anchor for millions of Americans every month.

But with Labor Day falling on Monday, Sept. 1, 2025, many beneficiaries are asking the same question: When will I receive my Social Security or SSI payment for September?

Here’s the full breakdown.

Who Qualifies for Social Security?

You’re typically eligible if you:

  • Are 62 or older and paid Social Security taxes for at least 10 years

  • Qualify through a spouse’s work history if you haven’t paid in long enough

  • Receive benefits due to disability or as a surviving family member

There are assistance programs designed to help you. See what you’re eligible for here!

Social Security Payment Schedule for September 2025

The Social Security Administration (SSA) pays benefits on Wednesdays, based on your birth date:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 10 → Birthdays between the 1st and 10th

  • Wednesday, Sept. 17 → Birthdays between the 11th and 20th

  • Wednesday, Sept. 24 → Birthdays between the 21st and 31st

If you’ve been receiving Social Security since before May 1997, or you collect both Social Security and SSI, your payment will arrive on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

What About SSI Payments in September?

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) usually goes out on the 1st of every month.

  • But because Sept. 1 is Labor Day, payments will be sent early on Friday, Aug. 29, 2025.

  • That means recipients will see two SSI payments in August (Aug. 1 and Aug. 29) but none in September.

Payment Dates for the Rest of 2025

The 2025 Social Security payment calendar stays the same every month:

  • 2nd Wednesday → Birthdays on the 1st–10th

  • 3rd Wednesday → Birthdays on the 11th–20th

  • 4th Wednesday → Birthdays on the 21st–31st

  • 3rd of each month → For those who started before May 1997

Didn’t Get Your Check?

If your payment doesn’t show up on the expected date, the SSA recommends waiting three business days before contacting them at 1-800-772-1213 or checking My Social Security online.

Bottom Line:

  • Social Security: Paid on Sept. 3, 10, 17, and 24, depending on your birthday.

  • SSI: Paid early on Aug. 29 due to Labor Day.

  • Always check your bank account or direct deposit on these dates to avoid confusion.
