More than 42 million Americans rely on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to help cover grocery costs each month.

While SNAP is federally funded, each state sets its own deposit schedule, so payment dates vary. Here’s what to expect this October.

 

October 2025 SNAP Deposit Dates by State

  • California: October 1–10

  • Florida: October 1–28

  • Texas: October 1–28

  • New York: October 1–9

  • Illinois: October 1–20

  • Georgia: October 5–23

  • Puerto Rico: October 4–22

  • Alaska: October 1

  • South Dakota: October 10

Smaller states like Rhode Island, Vermont, and North Dakota issue benefits in one day, while states such as Maryland, Indiana, and Louisiana spread payments across up to three weeks.

How Much Can You Claim in October 2025?

The amount you receive depends on income, household size, and family composition.

For FY 2026 (effective October 1, 2025 – September 30, 2026), here are the updated maximum allotments:

  • 1 person: $298 (48 states/DC) | $385 (Alaska Urban) | $439 (Guam) | $506 (Hawaii)

  • 2 people: $546 | $707 (Alaska Urban) | $806 (Guam) | $929 (Hawaii)

  • 3 people: $785 | $1,015 (Alaska Urban) | $1,157 (Guam) | $1,334 (Hawaii)

  • 4 people: $994 | $1,285 (Alaska Urban) | $1,465 (Guam) | $1,689 (Hawaii)

  • 5 people: $1,183 | $1,529 (Alaska Urban) | $1,743 (Guam) | $2,010 (Hawaii)

  • 6 people: $1,421 | $1,838 (Alaska Urban) | $2,095 (Guam) | $2,415 (Hawaii)

Standard Deductions (FY 2026)

  • 1–3 people: $209 (48 states/DC)

  • 4 people: $223

  • 5 people: $261

  • 6+ people: $299

  • Alaska: $358–374 (based on household size)

  • Guam: $420–598

  • Hawaii: $295–344

  • Virgin Islands: $184–299

 

Shelter Deductions

  • Maximum Excess Shelter Deduction: $744 (48 states/DC & Virgin Islands), $1,189 (Alaska), $873 (Guam), $1,003 (Hawaii)

  • Homeless Shelter Deduction: $198.99 nationwide

 

Asset Limits (FY 2026)

  • Households with a member age 60+ or disabled: $4,500

  • All other households: $3,000

 

Changes Coming in 2026

Starting in early 2026, 12 states including Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Iowa, and Colorado will introduce restrictions preventing SNAP benefits from being used to purchase soda, candy, and other junk foods.

This USDA-approved change aims to improve nutrition for SNAP families.
