TANF Payments for October: How to Check Your Exact Deposit Day

When it comes to Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), many families expect payments at the start of each month.

But unlike Social Security, there is no single nationwide payday for TANF. Instead, each state and territory sets its own schedule.

How TANF Payments Are Scheduled

  • Fixed-date states: Some states release TANF benefits on the 1st of the month or another set day.

  • Staggered payments: Many states spread payments across several days based on the last digit of a Social Security number or case number.

  • EBT-tied states: A few states load TANF on the same schedule as SNAP (food stamps) or other EBT benefits.

How to Confirm Your TANF Deposit Date

Because rules differ from state to state, the fastest way to confirm is to:

  1. Visit your state’s TANF or Family Assistance agency website for official schedules.

  2. Check the state’s EBT deposit calendar, if TANF is distributed that way.

  3. Call your local TANF office directly—phone numbers are listed on each state agency site.
