Military Disability Pay Increase 2026: What Disabled Veterans Should Expect

Disabled veterans will see their monthly VA disability compensation payments rise by 2.8% starting December 1, 2025, as part of the 2026 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).

This increase helps maintain the value of disability benefits amid rising living costs, supporting veterans with service-connected disabilities in covering essentials like healthcare, groceries, and utilities. The 2.8% boost reflects modest inflation growth compared to previous years.

For a veteran rated at 10% disability, the increase means roughly an extra $4.91 monthly, while veterans rated 100% with no dependents can expect about $107.28 more each month.

Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) payments for surviving spouses of disabled veterans will also rise by 2.8%, ensuring continued support for families affected by service-related deaths.

This adjustment follows the Consumer Price Index, which measures national price changes.

When inflation rises, veteran benefits increase accordingly, helping protect financial stability. Veterans retiring in 2025 will get a prorated COLA in 2026 based on their retirement date and system elected.

Beyond COLA, disabled veterans can access resources for disability claims and appeals:

  • VA.gov Disability Compensation: Official site for benefits information and filing claims (va.gov/disability).

  • Disabled American Veterans (DAV): Offers free claims assistance and representation (dav.org).

  • Veterans Affairs Regional Offices: Local offices for in-person claims help (va.gov/find-locations).

  • Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs): Nonprofit groups providing appeals and claims support, e.g., VFW (vfw.org) and American Legion (legion.org).

  • National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP): Legal help for complex appeal cases (nvlsp.org).

These resources empower veterans to navigate claims and appeals processes effectively, helping ensure they receive the full benefits earned through service.

This 2.8% increase and the support resources reinforce the federal commitment to honoring disabled veterans’ sacrifices while aiding them in managing rising living costs and accessing rightful benefits.
